Chat2Doc ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Chat2Doc browser extension (the "Extension"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how we handle your data when you use our Extension.

The short version: We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data, chat history, or browsing activity to our servers. All document generation happens locally on your device. We only communicate with our servers to verify your subscription status.

Data Collection and Use

1. Data Processing

The Extension is designed to work locally within your browser.

  • Chat Content: When you click "Export", the Extension reads the HTML content of the active tab (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to format it into a document. This processing is performed entirely in your browser's memory.We do not request or store this content on our servers.
  • Files: The PDF, Word, and Markdown files are generated locally using client-side libraries.
  • External Resources: We may load font files or emojis from public CDNs (like jsdelivr.net or cdnjs.com) to ensure your exported documents look correct.

2. Account & Quota (Chat2Doc.net)

If you use the "Pro" features or track daily usage limits:

  • The extension communicates with our server (chat2doc.net) only to verify your subscription status and manage daily export quotas.
  • No chat content is sent during this process. We only exchange authentication tokens and usage counters.

3. User Preferences

We use the Chrome Storage API (chrome.storage.local) to save your application settings, such as:

  • Preferred export format (PDF, Word, MD)
  • Selected template and styling options (margins, font size)
  • "Pro" status (cached locally)

This data stays on your device.

4. Analytics

We do not currently use third-party analytics services (like Google Analytics) to track your usage of the Extension.

Permissions

To function correctly, Chat2Doc requires specific permissions. Here is why we need them:

  • activeTab / Host Permissions
    • Why: To access the content of the AI chat page you are currently viewing so we can convert it to a document.
    • Scope: We only access pages you explicitly run the extension on (e.g., chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com, chat.deepseek.com, x.com, grok.com).
  • scripting
    • Why: To inject the necessary code into the webpage to parse the chat structure and styles correctly.
  • storage
    • Why: To remember your settings (e.g., "Always export as PDF") so you don't have to re-configure them every time.
  • sidePanel
    • Why: To display the Chat2Doc user interface alongside your chat window.

Data Sharing

Since we do not collect your data, we have no data to share with third parties. We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your information to outside parties.

Children's Privacy

Our Extension does not knowingly collect any personal identifiable information from children under the age of 13.

Updates to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date" at the top.
